Sunday – A day of Jams

Another half-day Sunday, another gig at one of the pubs on site. We rolled in around four in the afternoon, right when the bar decided to open, and started throwing around our gear like we were annoyed with it. Instruments were rigged up, the PA speakers were put in their optimal places, and cables snaked all over the place, reminiscent of the Well of Souls from Raiders of the Lost Ark. The new singer, Mr. Ian, took one look at the madness that we were throwing together and asked a pretty riveting question about the whole thing:

“How in the hell do you guys know where all of that crap has to go, and what cable goes where?”

-I guess after doing this for some time you just know.

Here’s one of South African’s finest guitar players, Fuzzy, making rock n’ roll look easy:

And Rod, looking as stoic as usual:

Oh look! The back of my head!

Dan, GET BACK ON THE DRUMS!!!

-And smile like a fool, dammit!

It was hot as hell and we were in the Niger Delta, a place where no HUMAN should have to be… but we had a great time. I hope the next time any of you are stuck in a situation that just generally sucks the tail pipe of filth and horror that you are able to make the most of it… like we have.

Cheers to all of you out there.

About Old Iron
I'm just a guy that works overseas alot and likes to play just as hard as I work. Been to a FEW countries, know a shitload of people all over, and generally have a good time wherever I go. -Oh, and I am currently in between girlfriends, and strangely enough and perfectly happy with that status. In the long run hookers are cheaper. Take my word on that.

-At that time, apparently from a place that requires my sweat glands to be on full blast. MAN was it hot out there… until a pop-up storm decided to drench everyone that wasn’t under the awning. Interesting story about that: we were singing (Ian and I) “Born to Be Wild”, and when we got to the lines “I like smoke and lightening, heavy metal thunder!” a friggin bolt of REAL lightening raced across the sky, followed by the requested thundering boom. I told Ian that God likes what we did so much that he provided the pyro, and we soldiered on.

    Best show EVER.

    -To date that is.

Yup… God’s Own Fireworks would be the PERFECT touch. Nice pics.

  4. Old Iron says:

Thanks Buck, it really was a good time. We do try to make the most of this nasty little place, and for some reason our co-workers tend to tolerate us.

Great pictures! It looks like a lot of fun. The lightening bolt during Born To Be Wild is freaky! I’d love to hear you guys play…have you considered posting a vid on YouTube?
