We Bastard Canadians

It’s funny. Canada is under scrutiny once again on how VANOC, erh scratch that… Canada is under scrutiny once again on how we as a NATION are handling our Team Canada. Read about it here.
See – call me bias if you want. I am afterall Canadian AND I work for VANOC. (Oh and for those who don’t know what VANOC means: Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games) So I am biased. Damn straight I am.
I am also tired of these idiotic reports that accuse Canada of all sorts of injustices, such as today – we are limiting access to foreign teams to our venues so as to give Team Canada – well home turf advantage. Wow. The audacity we have. How dare we do what every other nation in the world has done!!!! We sneaky bastard Canadians… we pissed off an American athlete. Oh. Poor ting. Sucks when it is done to you too, eh?
What – you didn’t think Canada wanted to take advantage of the position we are in, and not honour ancient antiquated ‘open-access gentlemen agreement’ that have really only served the US, which also happened to have ended? And – you didn’t think Canada was competitive?? Awh. Sorry honey. Don’t under estimate our willingness & wining spirit.
The thing is … this is the same kind of favouritism that is seen at/with every host country. Athletes use home-court advantage to outperform in their sport. Shit – Salt Lake City (2002) – is prime example of that! It is STANDARD, not un-Olympic, that the host country have home-court advantage. I mean afterall – it is Canada. Why wouldn’t I want Canadians to own the podium?? LOL… how un-Canadian of me to not want that for my country?
I scoff at these accusations. Is it because Canadians are reknown worldwide as the ‘good guys’ that we wouldn’t want to be the best? For the first time in the history of Canada hosting Winter Olympics, we actually would like to win Gold on Canadian soil. Does that make us bad? HA! That makes us competitive. That makes us just like you. But you call it ‘un-Olympic’ and ‘un-sportsmanlike’ and even better – dishonourable.
I like that.
I say – deal with it. We had to when you hosted the Olympics on your soil. But you cry wolf when its happened to you.
Who’s the sore looser now?
